Kathy Koester first interviewed to work at CVLS on the same day as the 2013 Blackhawks Stanley Cup parade. Since the parade route went right by CVLS’ office, she had to struggle to physically get to the office. In the two years since then, Kathy has worked her way through the CVLS ranks, and not unlike the parade on that first day, her path has been unusual but exciting.
Foreclosure Mediation Paralegal Al Piedra has spent the last seven years helping low-income people save their homes. Around the time of the 2007 mortgage crisis, Al saw several of his friends going through housing issues, and as a homeowner himself, he wanted to help.

CVLS Panel Referral Program Coordinator Kristen Harrison's commitment to bettering her community is undeniable. Kristen manages the entire case placement process, reviewing all different types of cases that CVLS accepts and making sure that each one goes to the volunteer attorney best suited to handle it. In addition to the amazing work she does for CVLS, Kristen recently contributed to her community in a different capacity: jury duty! Here is her account of that experience.
