Guardianship Planning Clinic for Undocumented Families
Erie Neighborhood House 1347 W Erie Street Chicago, IL 60642
December 2nd & December 16th 9am to Noon
On December 2nd and December 16th CVLS will host a joint legal clinic with Erie Neighborhood House to assist undocumented families with immigration and guardianship planning.
CVLS seeks 4-5 attorneys for each date to assist undocumented parents with creation of emergency plans in case of their detention or deportation. Attorneys will give legal advice and help families execute short-term guardianships, where applicable. Attorneys will address guardianship matters only; Erie House staff will be on site for separate immigration screenings.
This is a one-time pro bono opportunity that does not require any legal representation after the clinic date. Pre-trained attorneys with prior guardianship clinic experience are preferred, but attorneys new to these clinics can receive training via an online video. There will no training on site, but CVLS staff will be on hand to answer any questions that arise. CVLS will bring all necessary paperwork.
Volunteers are asked to please stay the entire time, from 9am to noon, but this is a walk-in clinic so there may be some down time.
This event is free and open to the public. No appointment is needed. If you work with immigrant populations or know someone who might like to attend, please feel free to pass along our flyer, which can be found here.
Registration for the December 16th clinic is now closed. Thank you for your interest. Please contact Rebekah Rashidfarokhi for more volunteer opportunities.
