Volunteer Shauna Wins Chicago Bar Foundation’s Weigle Exceptional Young Lawyer Award!

The Chicago Bar Foundation presents its Maurice Weigle Exceptional Young Lawyer Award every year to a lawyer under 36 based on: contributions to furthering the ideals of the legal profession, making the organized bar an effective force for improving the legal profession, and a demonstrated commitment to pro bono and community service.

Spotlight On: Visitation Legal Clinic

While chairing a legal clinic in the Loop, longtime friend of CVLS Mary Anne Smith encountered a church sharing program wherein more affluent parishes helped out poorer parishes. Part of this program involved a medical clinic for low-income members of the community; seeing this clinic in action, Mary Anne envisioned a similar program providing legal help.

Spotlight On: Janice, JEP

Janice Dantes, one of the eight young lawyers in the newest class of the Chicago Bar Foundation’s Justice Entrepreneurs Project, tried several different career paths before settling on “legal aid attorney.” While churning out repetitive projects at a corporate job, she decided she needed to make a real difference.
