Rebekah Rashidfarokhi, CVLS’ GAL for Minors Program Director, has been a long-time advocate for the under privileged. While working through her undergraduate and law degrees, Rebekah volunteered for programs dedicated to supporting immigrants, refugees, and victims of domestic violence. One of these programs even included an immigrants rights organization at the US-Mexico border long before the current political climate has thrust the issue back into the spotlight. She joined the CVLS family in 2007 as a general practice lawyer working on cases ranging from family law to mortgage foreclosure defense. In 2011 Rebekah was named Director of our Guardian Ad Litem for Minors Program where she now supervises over 200 volunteer lawyers. With this team of GALs she fights for the well being of vulnerable children each and every day. Over the past year, Rebekah has personally gathered and trained a second team of volunteers to respond to the urgent and growing needs of Chicago’s immigrant community. So far she has organized over 30 community clinics that have helped hundreds of undocumented parents create legal guardianship plans for their children in the event of the parent’s deportation. At this point it is no secret that Rebekah has already made a lasting impact on Chicago, the legal aid community, and those she has served. Well done Rebekah. You deserve it!
